Unexpected inspiration discovered at the new Powell's Used Bookstore in Chicago of these amazing collages John Evans created EVERYDAY from 1964-2000.

A Book for Ruby
PS. Nerdy tidbit - I did some research to find culturally appropriate plants and animals Ruby would find in the Netherlands, and also for me to do some cultural learn'in meself. I discovered that the blackbird was voted (out of 5,000 Dutch surveyed) the most musically pleasant of all birds in Holland according to the website Vroege Vogels.
Also, for the fish, I originally used a herring. But it was scary looking and impossibly un-cute.
Sorry, Ruby. Although you'll probably chomping on some by the time your teeth all come in like these guys:
